Getting ready to go back

This year, I was in the US for Thanksgiving. While normally I try to get home from Christmas, it seemed like that wasn’t going to happen this year, so I decided to make a short trip for the Turkey-day holiday instead. All in all it was good. My older brother insisted on goading his younger, more impressionable cousin into a sort of eating contest with all the food mom had spent all day making- the bastard, but other than that, the dinner was good. Lots of turkey, mashed potatoes, yams, the whole works.

I skipped out on the craziness of Black Friday shopping, even though jet lag had me awake and out of bed by 4AM. I did go out shopping later, after the rush, but managed to avoid any long lines. On the news, they were talking about how at a Walmart somewhere, an employee was trampled to death by 2000 moronic customers as they pushed their way into a store. Seriously, if these people actually went to work instead of waiting in line for 4-5 hours to save a few bucks, they would be able to shop at a nicer store.

Well, a couple more hours here in the US and then I get back to Japan and work.

Cheers!

And the wheel turns…

Shortly after the first poll results started pouring in, the BBC had already predicted the Barak Obama would be the 44th president of the United States of America. The least they could have given me was a spoiler warning! I was planning on spending a good chunk of my day peaking at the numbers, but now I’ll have to work!

All said and done, it was a dirty campaign. I’m sure that there was a lot of stress and probably more than one member of the election staff on both sides that did or said things that weren’t necessarily authorized. Hopefully, in elections to come, we will see a little more dignity and a lot less misquoting.

I do have mixed feelings about the results though. Remember when Palin was preparing for her debate with Biden and everyone was talking about lowering expectations for the Alaskan? Well, watching the victory parties of Obama supporters has me worried that the bar has been set too high. Heck, did you see this?

I know that I wouldn’t want to be in Obama’s shoes right now. Hopefully the American public remembers that Democracy is still in effect and that it will take longer than overnight for this big ship to find its new course.

Yo ho ho!

Sayonara to the 20s! _| ̄|○ ← that’s me on hands and knees!

Does turning 30 qualify one for the title of “middle aged”? I sure hope not because the only difference that I feel from yesterday to today is that today my stomach rejected the cornecopia of “comfort food” that I binged on last night! Let me tell you, the one thing that I am definately taking back to the US with me is my automatically opening and closing toilet seat. All hail the mother of invention!

Seriously though, turning 30 means that I’ve been at the rat race for about 10 years now. Looking back over it all, I think I can safely say that things are going well. Sure, I’m not a doctor or a lawyer, but I’m content.

See you all soon!

Cheers,
